The Governors Ball Music Festival 2019: Good times, music, eats, & more.

Governors Ball is basically the Coachella for NYC peeps.

Governors Ball is comprised of 3 different days (Friday, May 31st -Sunday, June 2nd) and different acts perform each day. This year, I decided to go to The Governors Ball Music Festival on only Saturday. This is my 6th year going. I used to only do one day when I first started to attend, but for the past 2 years I did all 3 days. I honestly would feel so tired and dead by the 3rd day, so this year I decided to only go one day – Saturday. I also liked the line-up for Saturday the most and had the most friends attending then as well, which is how I made my decision. Sunday actually ended up being delayed until later in the day, and then ended up getting evacuated, so I am glad that I didn’t choose to go that day!

I wanted to wear something that I couldn’t wear on an average, “regular” day. Lilac is my favorite color, so when I saw these shorts at Forever 21 I was obsessed! I would suggest finding your festival outfit at a fast-fashion store such as Forever 21 as they are affordable and I didn’t want to spend so much on a piece that I was only going to wear once and could possibly even get ruined at the festival.

What you see upon entry

Tip #1: They will let you bring in one unopened, sealed water bottle into the festival with you. They won’t allow a re-usable one or one that has been previously opened. They have water stations where you can continuously add water to your bottle throughout the day, sometimes the lines get long but it’s important to stay hydrated and is cheaper than continuously buying water, since it is pricy there!

There are a bunch of artsy & “instagrammable” opportunities around. Some of my favorite spots to take pictures include…

The Statue of Liberty that you approach near the entry of the festival

The iconic Gov Ball Sign, here I am nestled inside the pink “C” of NYC.

The art murals that they have

This year, they also had these cool holographic panels.

I got to see Playboi Carti, TY Dolla $ign, The 1975, Florence + The Machine, and Major Lazer.

Tip #2: Try to plan out which acts you are going to see in advance and keep track of the time to make sure you don’t miss anything and are allowing yourself enough time to get from stage to stage as well. Also make sure you take note of which stage the acts you want to see are performing at and try getting there a bit earlier to get a better spot.

Gov Ball Eats

Not only does Gov Ball have an impressive lineup of musical acts, they also have some super tasty bites available as well. If I could, I would have gotten it all, but I got as much as I possibly could! I shared some of my eats with friends, as I ended up getting a ton!

Throughout the day, I snacked on Taiyaki NYC, Milk & Cream Cereal Bar, Matcha Bar (one of my personal faves), Mac Truck, Big Mozz, Home Frite, Arancini Bros, Cousin’s Maine Lobster, and Bud Light’s Rainbow Bottle for Pride month!

Tip #3: After the festival is complete for the day it is impossible to get a uber/lyft to come onto the island to pick you up, due to the insane amount of people trying to call a car, uber/lyft actually doesn’t let you call a car from Randall’s Island. If you want to use uber/lyft to get home, you have to either walk or take a bus off the island and call one from there, which is what I did. The views from the foot-path on the Tri-Boro Bridge are beautiful and it is about a half hour walk off the island to Manhattan or Queens (make sure you are walking in the right direction to get to where you need to go). There are some taxi’s roaming the island, but I was worried about if they were legitimate or if they were going to overcharge, so I decided to play it safe and call a uber. Some people I know arranged for private car services to pick them up or asked a friend/family member with a car. There is also no parking on the island if you were interested in doing so.

Next year is going to be the 10th anniversary of the festival, and I hope that I can attend once again as this year was such an amazing experience for me.

I was wondering if you guys would like to see my festival outfits throughout the years and how they evolved, if you are leave a comment down below on this blog post!

*This post was saved in my drafts for a while before I got around to finishing it up and posting it, which is why it is posted a few months after the festival!*
